The National Science Foundation (NSF) Energy Storage Engine in Upstate New York is strengthening America’s battery industry through the development and production of next-generation energy storage materials and technologies.

While China continues to dominate the market for battery production, the United States has an opportunity to regain its competitive advantage - and strengthen national security - by developing and bringing to market batteries that are cheaper, safer, more reliable and more powerful. 

With support from the NSF Regional Innovation Engines program, the Energy Storage Engine is building a technology ecosystem positioned to make Upstate New York a global hub for advanced battery research and manufacturing. More than 60 partners across the battery supply chain are collaborating to deliver breakthrough energy storage solutions - drawing on the region’s legacy of manufacturing to power a more resilient future.
