This July, NSF announced 12 new Regional Innovation Engines, expanding the national network to 21 regions across the United States. The portfolio is designed to link complementary regional strengths, building U.S. capacity to accelerate technology development, grow economies, and prepare talent for emerging jobs in critical sectors.
For the newly awarded engines, that work has started with building strong foundations: assembling teams and operational systems, establishing boards and communications platforms, and developing and refining strategic plans, key progress indicators, and reporting methodologies.
As the post-award support platform built for the program and operated by The Engine, The Builder Platform is working alongside these new teams as they move from award to implementation. This month, as we enter into our fourth year of partnership with NSF, we continue to deliver tools, resources, and on-demand support across the expanded network, with a deepened model designed for impact.
With 12 new NSF Engines joining the network, we built on the lessons learned supporting the first cohort of engines to deepen our support model and meet each new team where it is: with a dedicated navigator, custom resource development, and curated sessions.
This work centers on three pillars:
BUILD with practical tools that drive action, including an expanded resource library of custom toolkits, templates, and real-time informational briefs
CONNECT engines to a national learning network with a peer community, an annual in-person retreat, and a curated national partner network
ACCELERATE ecosystem growth through on-demand advisory support from their Builder Platform navigator, specialized implementation advisors, and experts in regional ecosystem development
