NSF Engine Spotlight: Florida Semiconductor Engine

The Central Florida Semiconductor Innovation Engine is led by BRIDG, a not-for-profit, public-private partnership located at NeoCity in Osceola County, Florida specializing in advanced system integration and packaging and focused on inclusive regional economic development.

The NSF Engine is dedicated to strengthening U.S. semiconductor manufacturing by advancing next-generation microelectronic technologies. Focused on advanced packaging and digital twin technologies, the NSF Engine is developing secure, cutting-edge semiconductors that support national security and drive long-term economic growth in Osceola County, Florida and the Central Florida region.

Osceola County has strategically invested in semiconductor talent pipelines, developed partnerships with global industry partnerships, and built a county-owned fabrication facility at NeoCity. These initiatives, combined with a focus on advanced semiconductor packaging—essential for technologies like quantum computing and AI—positions the region as a key player in the rapidly growing global semiconductor market, expected to exceed $92 billion by 2026.

Core Objectives of the Central Florida Semiconductor NSF Engine:

  • R&D and Innovation: Collaborating with major research institutions and global leaders, the NSF Engine drives use-inspired research with immediate commercial applications, particularly in aerospace and defense sectors. Its proximity to NASA and other industries creates unique synergies for rapid innovation.
  • Technology Translation: Leveraging its close proximity to research institutes, the NSF Engine is accelerates prototyping, piloting and the scaling of new technologies, ensuring innovations are ready for market deployment
  • Workforce Development: In partnership with Valencia College, CareerSource Central Florida, and the Orlando Economic Partnership, the NSF Engine is building a diverse, skilled workforce. Programs range from short-term training to advanced degrees, providing multiple pathways for workers to enter and advance in the semiconductor industry.

Under the leadership of CEO Tawny Olore, P.E. and CTO and Co-PI Dr. John Allgair, the Central Florida Semiconductor Innovation Engine is enhancing U.S. semiconductor manufacturing capabilities, fostering a resilient domestic supply chain, and driving both regional and national economic growth. By integrating research, workforce development, and strategic partnerships, the NSF Engine is positioning the U.S. as a leader in the semiconductor industry while bolstering national security.
